Singer donates fee to charity after recent gig

A POPULAR local singer has donated his performance fee from a recent gig to a local charity.

Wayne Byrne made the donation to the Scarborough/Cahir Youth Trust after the show at the United Sports Bar in St Thomas Street.

Together with the takings from a raffle, £315 was raised for the trust.

Chairman Ian Stubbs said: “This is a fantastic gesture from Wayne. The charity sends local children on a week’s holiday to our twin town of Cahir, Ireland, every year.

“The next coach full of children departs on June 1 and this donation will help with the meals while there.”

The trust is a registered charity, based in the Spa pub in Victoria Road, which for 12 years has been sending children to Cahir who would not normally go on holiday.

Mr Byrne said: “I just wanted to do something for local children and as I appear in the Spa once a month I see the hard work the committee does each week in raising the money.”
