The original Sex Bomb himself, Sir Tom Jones, has announced he will be performing in Scarborough this summer.

The Welsh superstar will be headlining a show at the Open Air Theatre on Wednesday July 29.

Tickets are expected to sell out fast as Sir Tom makes his first ever appearance in the town.

Cllr David Chance, Scarborough Borough Council’s Portfolio Holder for Tourism and Culture, said: “We are extremely delighted to be welcoming the international legend that is Sir Tom Jones to the Open Air Theatre.

“This is a real coup for Scarborough and just highlights the calibre of artist that we can attract to the venue.

“This year’s line-up is so diverse that it should appeal to a wide ranging audience and bring visitors to the Borough from far and wide.”

Event promoter Cuffe and Taylor’s Peter Taylor added: “I am thrilled we are working with Scarborough to bring Tom Jones to this beautiful seaside town. The Open Air Theatre is a fantastic venue and I have no doubt this will be a hugely popular event.

“We have worked with Tom at venues across the UK and it is a pleasure to be able to work with him again and introduce him to a town where he is ensured a very warm welcome.

“It is always a treat for music fans to be able to see a world-class star in an intimate setting and the people of Scarborough and beyond will get to experience an unforgettable evening of live music.”

With a catalogue that boasts sales of more than 100 million records, including many iconic songs, fans are assured of a fantastic night of entertainment as Sir Tom and his band present repertoire from a career that crosses all eras and genres of popular music.

Last week the council also announced that both Jessie J and Boyzone would be returning to the venue this summer, after proving big draws last year.

The authority also revealed it would be staging 12 concerts in one season for the first time. It had previously restricted itself to eight.

Tickets for Sir Tom are on sale from Monday priced from £45 and are available from Ticketmaster.co.uk on 0844 844 0444, in person at Scarborough Open Air Theatre Box Office or The Sands North Bay or by calling 01723 383636.
