Sky volunteers’ shelter mission

ENGINEERS from BSkyB volunteered their services to help out with environmental projects in Scarborough.

Volunteers from the satellite company helped give a makeover to one of the Victorian Shelters in Spa Gardens, South Bay.

Scarborough Council’s community environment officer Roger Burnett said: “BSkyB was looking for an opportunity to offer the skills of its northern area service technicians as part of the company’s Community Health Scheme. As they were in Scarborough on a training course already we were delighted when they offered their services to us.

“The men have painted ‘Shelter One’ in Spa Gardens which needed a makeover and it is now ready for a final top coat which local volunteers from the Friends of South Cliff and Scarborough in Bloom will apply once the weather is more settled.

“They also undertook a beach clean with local volunteers and had a great morning cleaning up once the tide had gone out. They certainly made a big difference.”

Mr Burnett is always looking for new volunteers to join groups across the town. Potential volunteers can contact Mr Burnett or Sheila Johnson on 07961966617.
