The slides at the new £14 million Alpamare waterpark are back in use after "technical issues" forced them to close.

Earlier today (August 3) a post was published on the attractions Facebook page, just five days after opening, informing customers they were experiencing "a few technical issues".

The attraction only opened to visitors on Saturday July 30

As a consequence, no visitors were able to use the slides for a number of hours and Alpamare were offering 50 per cent discounts for entry.

Now, a secondary statement has been released confirming the slides are back in action after the problems were fixed.

"We are pleased to be able to let you know that the slides are now up and working again," the post reads.

"The team at Alpamare would like to thank you for you patience and and support whilst we have been fixing the issue. It really is much appreciated.

"Enjoy your visit!!"

The Burniston Road attraction has already had a rocky road to completion, with the global financial crash meaning Scarborough Borough Council had to stump up a £9 million loan to secure its future – something the authority agreed to by a single vote.

The new waterpark opened its doors to visitors two days late on Saturday July 30 following last minute delays including a loss of power.

The earlier post read: "We are unfortunately experiencing a few technical issues with our slides.

"Rest assured they are being worked right now and will be up and running as soon as possible. Until they are fully operational again we are offering a 50 per cent discount to all our guests.

"Please accept our sincere apologies for this disruption. We hope to have the teething issues sorted out very soon. We will update this page as soon as the slides are back in full operation (which we hope wont be long). Thanks to everyone who has been patient and understanding whilst queuing today, we really appreciate it!"

Alpamare Scarborough is expected to attract more than half a million visitors a year, and has created around 100 new jobs.

Following within months of opening will be a luxury European-style Wellness Spa, set to open in early 2017.
