A number of groups in Scarborough have teamed up to help women in developing countries and closer to home.
WiRE (Women in Rural Enterprise), Scarborough JobMatch and Sainsbury’s have been asking friends, family, contacts and colleagues to donate old shoes which will be sorted and shipped abroad providing urgently needed footwear in developing countries.
The United Shoe Recycling Company is donating £5 for each sack of shoes collected to The Women’s Community Project Scarborough.
Katrina Shamel, from WiRE, said “It’s a delight to be working with Scarborough JobMatch and Sainsbury’s on this project which is directly benefitting local causes and making a difference to people’s lives”.
The collection is going on until the end of April. To find out more or to get involved call 07821 299 233.
