Less than 18 months after being launched Scarborough Hospital’s Snowdrop Appeal has reached its £120,000 target.

The magnificent news was announced during the appeal’s Snowball at the Downe Arms last night.

The Snowdrop Appeal, which launched in June 2013, is a fundraising drive to open a maternity bereavement suite at the hospital as currently there are no dedicated facilities for looking after parents facing such difficult circumstances.

Since its launch many events have been held to help reach the target, including a Calender Girls-style calender.

Community fundraiser for the appeal, Maya Richardson, said: “The people I have met are just such an inspiration and I feel honoured to have heard their stories and to be part of making a difference to those who suffer a loss and heartache in pregnancy.

“It gives me great pleasure to tell you that the total for the appeal is now over the targeted £120,000 and that plans are in place to start the work.”
