SCARBOROUGH could have its own pop star in the charts this week as Belle Amie releases its debut single.

The band, which features Scarborough singer Sophia Wardman, has released Girls Up for sale on download.

Belle Amie were put together on 2010’s X Factor, when Sophia was teamed up with fellow singers Rebecca Creighton, Esther Campbell and Geneva Lane.

The group were voted off in the fourth round of the Live Finals, however Sophia, Rebecca and Esther stayed together.

The trio have been in the recording studio, performing at gigs up and down the country, and promoting their new single and accompanying video after signing to an independent record label.

Sophia said: “We have been crazy busy these last few weeks promoting the single, and we are really pleased that it is now for sale.

“This is a big test for us to see how we do without the big names like Simon Cowell behind us. We have worked really hard, and hopefully it will have paid off.

“We just really hope our family, friends and fans back in Scarborough will support us and buy the single.”

The single was produced by Chad Burnette, who has worked with Rihanna, Beyoncé and 50 Cent. Girls Up is available for download from iTunes, Amazon, pay.com and tesco online.
