SCOUTS from three Scarborough groups were feeling buoyant after messing about on the river during an annual raft race.
The youngsters from 1st Scarborough, 46th Westborough and 49th Eastfield battled it out on their home made creations in Peasholm Park. The challenge saw the boys build their Kontiki rafts before taking to the water to cook a full breakfast on a purpose-built fire on the rafts.
After impressing with their culinary skills, they then embarked on a closely fought race around the scenic setting’s waters.
Pauline Hainsworth, assistant district commissioner for Scouting in the Scarborough area, said the teams had done extremely well and shown a lot of enthusiasm.
She added: “This is one of the oldest district competitions and everyone really enjoys it.
“We would also like to thank Dennis Vasey and Terry Watson for judging the construction, Graham Johnson for judging the cooking and all of the leaders for giving their time to Scarborough Scouting.”
