CROWDS gathered to watch the traditional St George’s Day parade pass through Scarborough’s town centre.

Around 400 Scouts, Beavers and Cubs took part in the march, which started at Waterhouse Lane and ended at the Salvation Army Citadel in Alma Parade.

Participants then took part in a church service at the citadel, where Scouting awards were given out.

District commissioner Bonnie Purchon said: “It’s been absolutely wonderful. We’ve been very lucky with the weather and a good crowd has turned out again.”

The parade was led by flag bearer Nathan Gilbert of 46th Scarborough Westborough.

Mrs Purchon said the march has taken place, to her knowledge, since at least 1955.

A collection was made at the service for the Mayoress’ Community Fund and the India Robertson Appeal, which is aimed at sending local girl India to the USA for life-changing medical treatment.
