Status Quo, or one half of them to precise, rocked out at Scarborough's Open Air Theatre on Saturday night.

Rick Parfitt was not able to make the show after the 67-year-old was taken to hospital last month in an "extremely serious life-threatening" condition following a heart attack at a concert in Turkey.

Francis Rossi was joined by Freddie Edwards, son of bass player John "Rhino" Edwards, who took Parfitt's place.

Scarborough resident, Jackie Smith was on hand to give her review of the band's concert:

"Saturday July 9 at the Open Air Theatre saw Status Quo play their "Accept no Substitute" tour which, for the first time ever, represented all of the eras across six decades that make up the incredible career of this truly seminal British act.

"As promised, the rock legends Francis Rossi, John Edwards, Andy Bown, Leon Cave on drums, and Freddie Edwards (son of John, standing in for Rick Parfitt who is recuperating in hospital after a recent heart attack), took to the stage and made it rock!

"Classic rock anthems such as "Caroline", "The Wanderer", "Paper Plane", and medleys of "What you're proposing", "Down the Dustpipe, and"Honky Tonk Angel", quickly had the crowd singing and dancing, followed by the all time Quo classic "Rocking all over the World". Many more classics followed, everyone knew the words, even those too young to remember the old days, as they'd probably heard their parents playing the records and cassettes of Quo music from the past decades.

"Even the rain did not dampen anyone's enthusiasm, lots of plastic ponchos and rain jackets were the order of the evening, although the rain did eventually stop and no one minded being wet through, everyone was in the same boat, all happy to be there in the presence of the legends that are Status Quo.

"Guests came from far and wide to be at the Scarborough venue, Danny Dawson from Gateshead, Michael Smith and family from South Shields, Carol McKenzie and her father came from Edinburgh, and one couple even came from Taiwan!

"A sell-out concert at the wonderful and unique Open Air Theatre, the venue literally rocked the roof off (it it had had one!)".
