The Rolling Stones might not have topped the bill, but the sold-out Staxtonbury festival was still a hit with music lovers.

Scorching sunshine greeted around 4,000 music fans to the fifth annual festival in Staxton at the weekend, as revellers sat back to enjoy nearly 80 local acts.

Temperatures peaked at around 27 degrees on the Saturday, with visitors flocking from as far away as London for the three-day family event. Rebecca Spurden, who along with her friend Vicky Wild, was at her fourth Staxtonbury, said: “It’s just a great atmosphere. The whole village really supports it.”

There had been a surge in the past fortnight of people wanting to buy a ticket, but with tickets long sold out, organisers simply had to say no.

Despite that, organiser Ray Roberts said that expanding the festival isn’t on his radar just yet.

“The Friday was the best night we’ve had since the festival started,” said Ray. “And to be honest, if the same people keep coming back, and we have this same weather, then I will always be happy with that.” Tickets for the 2014 event are expected to go on sale at around Christmas.
