I was happy with Tuesday’s North Riding FA Senior Cup win against Redcar Town.
Not only did we get the result, but it also gave us the chance to have a look at a few players, to see if they are good enough or add value to our squad.
It is difficult in one match for some players because they can try too hard to make an impact and force themselves into the team.
Overall though I thought we did okay, passing the ball well and coming away with the victory.
It is hard in non-contract football because it is about keeping people happy, when you are juggling you always end up getting muck on your face.
When players are on contract you can send them out on loan to get their football in. Where we are, they may just choose to leave if they are not getting a game.
There were some good performances across the park, I thought Tom Morgan did well to make a good late save after he had been out of the action for a long time.
The jury is still out on a few, but you can’t make a total judgement after that single game.
We are always looking to strengthen as well, but it is just a case of who you bring in.
We’ve spoken to a few players, but we’ll be leaving some deals until after Christmas because this is a funny time of the season.
We have brought in Jake Day from East Yorkshire Carnegie, he is a big, powerful goalscorer and they are like gold dust.
He will be in the squad at the weekend against Droylsden, so we’ll have to see how he gets on.
