BOOKSTART week turned a new page in Scarborough as children took part in a story telling event.

Scarborough Library staff said they were thrilled to have a “wonderful turn out” for their Bookstart ‘All Aboard’ storytime, as 40 children and 37 adults attended.

The session was a celebration of sharing stories and rhymes and all the children were given a free song sheet and book, courtesy of ‘Booktrust’.

County Councillor Chris Metcalfe said: “Bookstart events are a wonderful opportunity for families to celebrate reading together.

“The library always welcomes the chance to spread the love of books as everyone loves a story - from age 9 months to 90 years.”

This year’s Bookstart event saw young readers take part in a Teddy Bears’ Picnic when the children brought along their favourite cuddly toy, listened to teddy stories and shared a snack too.

Children were also encouraged to join Bookcrawl, a free reading incentive for pre school children, which gives stickers and certificates to youngsters after library visits.
