SPORTS men and women enjoyed fun in the sun on Scarborough’s South Bay in a bid to raise money for charity.

A Sports Day was held on the beach after staff and students at the University of Hull Scarborough Campus decided to raise money for MacMillan Cancer Nurses.

A host of people paid donations to take part in a variety of sporting activities including cricket, five a side football and tag rugby.

Kathryn Oram-Robinson, of the Student Union, who helped to organise the event, said: “Obiviously with the univserity being such a big place a lot of people have been affected by cancer, and many people have had support from the Macmillan Nurses.

“We decided to run a sports day on the beach.

“It has been a real team effort from everyone. Both teachers and staff, and the union, have helped in organising the event, and even more have taken part.

“Everyone had a really fun day and luckily the sun was out too. We are hoping it will have been a very successful fundraisers.”

Following yesterday’s Sports Day a raffle was held in the evening in a bit to boost funds further.

A fundraising cake bake has also been organised at the university next week, also in support of MacMillan.

The university staff, students and union reps are hoping to raise £500 from their efforts.
