A Scarborough lady who is soon to turn 100 was treated to a special surprise party by her friends at an over 60s club.
Vi Dungey was thrilled to be presented with flowers, a cake and musical entertainment by the Beckdene Singers.
She will turn 100 on June 23, but her friends at the Leisure and Pleasure Club at Emmanuel St John Church, St John’s Road, had the event early as it was their last meeting of the season.
Barbara Bunfield, who organises the group along with Joan Pringle, said: “Vi didn’t know anything about it, so it was a complete surprise for her.
“It was really lovely. She was bright and lively and smile on her face the whole time. She even sang along with the Beckdene Singers!”
She added: “Vi is absolutely great. She is full of fun and really enjoys herself. She is fit and well, despite having some difficulty walking, as we all do!
“She lives with her son and daughter in law and they still enjoy holidays away together.”
Vi has been a member of the club since it began 19 years ago.
The group meets on the first and third Thursday of the month for activities such as cards, dominoes and music.
Barbara said: “We don’t have as many members as we used to, but we always have a good laugh! We also have trips away, with the next one being a day out to Whitby.”
New members are always welcome - just enquire at the church.
The birthday party for Vi was a double celebration another member of the group, Gwen Butterfield, was celebrating her 90th birthday.
