Detectives investigating reports that a woman was assaulted in Scarborough have released a description of a man they would like to trace in connection with the incident.

The woman, aged 18, was assaulted at around 5.20am on Thursday (July 10), in Town Hall car park near St Nicholas Street.

The victim was not seriously injured in the incident.

Officers cordoned off the car park while they conducted their enquiries into the incident. The cordon has now been lifted.

The man officers are keen to trace is described as white aged in his early 20s, around 5ft 11in tall with a thin build, olive skin, brown hair and a beard. He was wearing a burgundy shirt and blue denim jeans.

Officers are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident or saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area around the time to get in touch.
