A six-hour rooftop police standoff has ended after officers arrested a 17-year-old male.

Officers managed to talk the teenager down after he had scaled the roof of a two-storey building in Stepney Road at around 3.55pm yesterday afternoon.

All three emergency services were called to the incident, which unfolded after initial police reports of a “disturbance” at the property.

Trained police negotiators attempted to coax the boy down, as officers put road blacks in place at the Roundabout with Falsgrave Road and Scalby Road and at the junction with Stepney Grove and Sandy Lane.

Eventually, the standoff ended “peacefully and without injury” at around 10.15pm, when the teenager came down and was subsequently taken into police custody, where he is still being grilled by officers on suspicion of committing criminal damage.

He had been wanted by police in connection with minor criminal offences.
