Traders have woken to carnage on Scarborough’s iconic sea front, with pubs and shops knee deep in water after the worst flooding in decades.

Business has come to a temporary standstill, as staff clean up the wreckage caused by the flooding on Thursday night.

West Pier has taken a battering, with fishing equipment destroyed by the high waters, and some sea front businesses are currently without power after the buildings were pounded by stormy waters.

And RNLI volunteers spent the morning cleaning out the station house, after it was flooded.
