THE new Miss Scarborough is still coming to terms with her glamorous title as she looks ahead to the Miss England competition.

Leanne Wilford was crowned Miss Scarborough at a glittering awards ceremony at the Spa.

The 18-year-old is now back at home in Malton with her family coming to terms with her new title, which is Miss Scarborough and District.

She said: “I can’t explain how I felt when they called my name out. I was really shocked as I wasn’t expecting to win at all. It was really exciting though.

“I entered because I thought it would help boost my confidence being on stage, I never thought for a second I would win. It was a wonderful experience and I met some really lovely people.”

Leanne was supported on the night by her parents Paul and Christine, her sister Louise and brother Phillip and her best friend.

She says she now looking forward to taking on the role and representing Scarborough.

Leanne said: “I am really looking forward to meeting lots of new people as Miss Scarborough. I think it will really help my confidence.

“I would also like to use the position to help a lot of charities locally.”

Leanne is a student at Malton Sixth Form College, studying towards A Levels in Home Economics, Sociology and Health and Social Care, with a view towards working in an office or with children. She says her hobbies are socialising, shopping, going to the cinema, and being around her friends.

After winning the Scarborough title Leanne will now represent the town in the final of Miss England, which will be held in Birmingham in July.

Leanne said: “I am really looking forward to Miss England. I know after how much I enjoyed Miss Scarborough that it will be another great experience and a chance to meet some lovely people. I am looking forward to representing Scarborough and making my family proud.”
