The funny side of fundraising

SCARBOROUGH is set for some fun fundraising tomorrow as the town shows its support for Comic Relief.

Scores of schools, businesses and organisations are hosting fun themed events in a bid to raise money for this year’s national Red Nose appeal.

Children across the town are getting into the spirit of the event with fancy dress taking place at nurseries.

At Buckets and Spades Nursery children are wearing their clothes back to front, while youngsters at Happy Jays are dressing up as Toy Story characters.

Children at Scarborough Hospital Nursery Kinderplace will be celebrating the day, along with Bairnswood nursery which is hosting a pyjama toddle.

A fun day is planned at Sainsbury’s supermarket as staff dress up for their shifts, managers have their legs waxed, and staff and customers embark on fitness challenges thanks to equipment loaned by Compass Gym.

Fitness is also the theme for fundraising at the Crown Spa Hotel where health club staff are taking on members in a 24-hour fitness challenge.

Eze Fitness, in Dunslow Road, is hoping to bring the pennies in too with an all-male Zumbathon.

At Scarborough Sixth Form College one of the teachers is having his hair cut for the cause, with the length of the chop depending on how much money is raised.

Afterwards, students will be competing in a charity X-Factor style competition.

Staff from Game and Game Station in Scarborough will go head to head in a 12-hour non-stop challenge of the consoles at e-casino in the town for Comic Relief.

The battle starts at noon tomorrow and all are welcome to watch, said casino manager Dave Phillips.

One brave fundraiser is even painting himself red and jumping into the sea at Scarborough’s North Bay at 11am tomorrow.
