The Scarborough News has scooped prestigious honours at a national awards ceremony.

The newspaper won Relaunch Title of the Year in the Johnston Press Awards for its new format, converting to a bumper weekly newspaper from the old Scarborough Evening News.

The newspaper was also a finalist in the company’s Title of the Year overall against competition from hundreds of newspapers.

The newspaper’s team also scooped honours for newspaper sales and received a Special Mention as publishing unit of the year. Its sister newspaper the Driffield Times and Post won best use of social media thanks to the efforts of journalist Steve Petch.

Former Scarborough News reporter Daniel Sanderson, who now works on the Edinburgh Evening News, won the title of Journalist of the Year.

The Scarborough News is also short-listed for another award in the 2013 Newspapers Awards to be held in London next month.
