Councillors voted to STAY at Town Hall

A lengthy debate over controversial plans to relocate the Town Hall function to Prospect House in Eastfield was concluded this afternoon.

Councillors met at the Town Hall in St Nicholas Street, to discuss the proposals before voting on whether to stay or go.

Scarborough News reporter Nina Swift was at the meeting. Here are her live updates from the debate:

2.55pm : Councillors have voted to remain at the Town Hall, at the “heart of the town”. Only one voted against staying - Independent Cllr John Armsby of Mulgrave Ward

2.38pm : Decision due soon. Most councillors seem in favour of staying.

2.24pm : It will be a recorded vote following request from Cllr Cockerill.

2.18pm : Tom Fox moves to recommend town hall remains
