MEMBERS of a local social group have clubbed together to raise £750 for local charities.
The Guide Dogs for the Blind, Peasholm Surgery and Scarborough Mere Angling Club each received £250 donations thanks to a number of race nights and raffles held by The Trafalgar Men’s Social Club based in Trafalgar Street West.
Tony Burnard, chairman of the group since 1986, regularly organises charitable events with joint licensee and club secretary Sean Colley to support the community, and last year the club won the Group over 18 category in the Borough’s Big Thank You Awards.
He said: “We generally give away about £2000 each year. It’s all through funds that the lads put their effort in to raise the money.
“We ask the members to go round and find out who they would like the beneficiaries to be.
“The Mere Anglers said they didn’t have a portable toilet for the females so we chipped in for that, we gave money for a young lad who’s running the London Marathon because he’s raising money for the local Guide Dogs for the Blind and the other £250 went to the local doctors for a new otoscope.”
