A Scarborough teacher has been recognised for his efforts with a top teaching award.

Mark Fitzpatrick, of St Augustine’s School, was presented with a certificate by the Pearson Teaching Awards 2013.

Each year, organisers receive thousands of thank you messages for special teachers like Mr Fitzpatrick.

A spokesman said: “This year we had over 24,500 messages for teachers, teaching assistants and school teams.

“The responses were fantastic, giving the judges an even bigger challenge in making the final selection.”

Mr Fitzpatrick was presented with his certificate on May 17, which is Thank a Teacher Day. Schools across the country held special assemblies and celebrations to mark the event.

The Pearson Teaching Awards provide a way for people to say thank you to schools and inspirational people who help change lives for the better. They look to promote the best in teaching and learning.
