One of Scarborough’s biggest town centre bars is having a £350,000 refurbishment which will create five more jobs.

The Barbican, in St Nicholas Street, closed its doors on Sunday and will reopen - with a new look and new name - at 5pm on Friday October 17.

The bar will be renamed The Scarborough Flyer - a reference to the famous steam locomotive.

The refurbishment will not involve any structural alterations but will include a new bar, seating, flooring and frontage.

Manager Lee Knaggs said: “We can’t wait - we’re really looking forward to the reopening.

“We kept the old staff, but we’ve managed to create five new jobs which is great.”
