CUSTOMERS and staff at a Scarborough store have brought a smile to children’s faces this Christmas with a large donation of soft toys.

Matalan asked customers if they would like to buy an extra gift along with their shopping to go youngsters at Scarborough Hospital children’s ward and Martin House Children’s Hospice.

More than 600 cuddly dogs were collected and brought a lot of Christmas cheer when they were delivered to the children.

George Sowersby, from the Scarborough Friends of Martin House, said: “We would like to thank Matalan for their kind donation of soft toys for the poorly children at Martin House.

“We are most grateful for their support and the kindness shown by all the staff and customers.”

Martin House is Scarborough’s local children’s hospice and is based at Boston Spa near Tadcaster.

It cares for youngsters with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions. If you would like to help please call (01723) 374295.
