TRADERS in Scarborough’s town centre are being urged to fly the flag for this weekend’s Diamond Jubilee Celebrations.

As the town gears up for an extra long bankholiday weekend, Scarborough’s Chamber of Trade says it is the perfect opportunity to showcase what is on offer in the town’s retail scene.

Shops of all kinds are being encouraged to decorate their facias, windows and interiors and get in to the spirit of the Jubilee.

Chamber president Janet Jefferson said she is hopeful of a sea of red, white and blue in Scarborough’s town centre to help the precinct “shine”.

She said: “I really hope that shops and businesses will put on a display to celebrate the Jubilee weekend.

“We have some fantastic shops and businesses in Scarborough and with a little extra effort in the next few days, Scarborough could really shine.

“We have an excellent record of creating fantastic window displays in Scarborough and this is a great chance to show that. With the two bank holiday days and half term to follow, lots of people will be heading for Scarborough – what a perfect opportunity to showcase our wonderful resort.”

Retailers are hoping for bank holiday boost in trade as warm weather is forecast for the four day weekend from Saturday June 1, to Tuesday 4.

A whole series of Jubilee celebrations are being held across Scarborough throughout the weekend. For a full list of what’s on and when for the Jubilee turn to pages 28 and 29. Following the events visit www.thescarboroughnews.co.uk for pictures and next week’s The Scarborough News.
