Tragedy of man killed in car crash

A 26-year-old Scarborough man has died in a fatal accident after his car crashed in to a tree.

Father of two Joe Greening was on his way to work at Kingspan Wards in Sherburn early Friday morning when his car left the A64 near to Staxton roundabout.

Fire, police and ambulance crews were called to the scene at 5.51am.

Joe, the cousin of professional footballer Jonathan Greening, was the only occupant of the car and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Fire crews and a private ambulance arrived at around 9am to cut the body from the car.

Police say Joe, who was driving a silver Vauxhall Corsa, had been overtaking a car and a small camper van before losing control of his car.

He was driving westbound on the A64 when he left the road opposite the Merry Lees Caravan Park.
