RESIDENTS in Pickering now have an evening bus service from Scarborough once again.

Scarborough and District Buses had had to reduce its 128 service in the evenings because of cuts in subsidies by North Yorkshire County Council, making the last bus from Scarborough to Pickering at 6pm.

County Cllr David Jeffels who has worked with the company to have an evening service, and it has now agreed to introduce a service which will leave the Railway Station at 8pm, and run to Pickering, from where it will return at 8.55pm Monday to Friday.

He said: “This is excellent news for people living in the villages, especially those who work in Scarborough and who have difficulty getting home with a last bus at 6pm.”

Chris Agar, the Scarborough area manager, said the company was pleased to have been able to re-instate an evening service.

The Traffic Commissioner has now granted East Yorkshire Motor Group’s request for a short notice registration to enable the service to start next Monday.
