A SCARBOROUGH motorist escaped without serious injury after colliding with a street light and rolling their car onto its side yesterday.

The incident happened around 8.30am when a silver Renault Clio left the road near The Poacher’s Barn, in Osgodby Lane, and hit the lamp-post which was strewn across the pavement.

The impact with the street light also caused slight damage to a nearby post box.

An ambulance spokeswoman confirmed two people were taken to Scarborough Hospital for treatment after the collision.

However, she was unable to confirm the extent of their injuries.

The road was closed as paramedics dealt with the two patients and fire crews made the area safe.

Police re-opened the road around 9.30am.
