A SCARBOROUGH couple had a lucky escape after they escaped unharmed from a road accident in which their car skidded off the road before rolling over and hitting a tree.

The incident took place on the A171, at Pond Hill, near The Flask, at about 9.05am yesterday.

Emergency services attended the scene, and the Great North Air Ambulance was called to the incident as a precaution but was not needed.

A spokesman for the air ambulance said: “A Scarborough couple were involved in a single vehicle road traffic accident when their car rolled over after skidding on ice and hit a tree.

“The car was in a really bad way but it turned out that other than being trapped inside the vehicle they escaped without injury. It’s remarkable, they didn’t even have a scratch on them.

“The air ambulance was called to the accident but thankfully we weren’t really needed.
