Six people had to be airlifted from the coast near Scarborough yesterday after they trapped by the incoming tide.

The alarm was raised at 6.45pm and the rescue operation involved a helicopter from RAF Leconfield which happened to be on a training exercise at the time.

A spokesman for the coastguard said they were cut off at Primrose Bay between Scarborough and Filey.

He added that the helicopter was helped by two lifeboats from Filey as well as a coastal rescue team from HM Coastguard.
