TRIBUTES have been paid to former St Catherine’s Hospice lottery manager Ivan Torkington, whose funeral was held at Woodlands Crematorium yesterday.
Mr Torkington, who was 66, was cared for in the hospice until he passed away on November 22.
David Marshall, director of funding development, has paid tribute to his colleague, who was responsible for the setting up and success of the hospice lottery.
He said: “Ivan and his team helped bring in hundreds of thousands of pounds over that period by building a massive group of supporters as lottery members, who continue to support the hospice to this day. He was well respected and liked very much by the staff here and was an ambassador for the hospice in the area. He will be greatly missed by all his friends at the hospice.”
In his working life Mr Torkington was also a Cadbury’s salesman, worked at ETW Dennis & Sons, and was general sales manager at Yorkshire Regional Newspapers.
