THREE intrepid Scarborough students are getting in the saddle for a charity ride to fund a trip to Ghana.

Scarborough Sixth Form College trio Daniel Eggleton, 18, and 17-year-old Tim Phillips and Stefan Campbell are embarking on a 135-mile trip from Blackpool to Scarborough next month to raise money for a summer humanitarian mission.

The idea was dreamt up by Daniel who, as part of his Duke of Edinburgh gold award scheme, will be travelling to the African country with Tim to work with the Village by Village charity.

The lads need around £1,400 each to fund the month long trip which will get under way in July and have further fundraisers lined-up, including a race night and Tim potentially dressing up in a Panda suit for a full week.

Despite not taking part in such a strenuous journey before, Daniel said he was confident they could pull it off.

He said: “We are doing some practice routes and I’ve worked out we’ll need to do 30 miles a day which is quite realistic.”
