A MILITARY charity has issued an appeal to find volunteers in Scarborough to help out with operations.
Operation Shoebox is a Voluntary Organisation which co-ordinates the sending of care parcels to British Troops serving abroad, especially in Afghanistan
Typically they ask the public to donate parcels for soldiers. However, they’re currently short of people to act as regional co-ordinators.
Volunteers in the role would appeal to their local communities to make up and donate parcels for troops.
The parcels are either dropped off or collected by the local coordinators, who are then responsible for checking, weighing and wrapping each parcel before taking them to the Post Office to be sent. They also get involved in fund raising and raising the profile of Operation Shoebox in Scarborough.
A spokesperson for the charity said: “Volunteering as a Regional Coordinator for Operation Shoebox is a very worthy vocation. A parcel from back home is a huge moral boost to someone serving their Queen and Country.
