Tune in to new season from Scarborough Spa Orchestra

Scarborough Spa Orchestra

The dates for Scarborough Spa Orchestra’s summer season have now been announced – with the ensemble continuing the 104 year tradition from June 6 to September 8.

The musicians will play with nine different concerts every week – including a return of the Sunday afternoon concert.

Once again themorning concerts will bring a musical start to the Spa’s day from Sunday to Thursday, with the evening concerts taking place on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Thursday evenings will continue to be the centrepiece to the orchestra’s week with gala night. Guest vocalists will be at the heart of these performances.

The Teddy Bears’ Picnics will replace the usual Monday morning concerts from July 4 to August 29. Hosted by Kathy Seabrook, these performances introduce youngsters to the magic of music and how the instruments work. There’s plenty of audience participation in these sessions.

The Sunday morning concerts will have a small twist, with a ‘pay what you think’ scheme in place. As the name suggests, guests can pay what they think – with contributions going to assist the continued support of the orchestra.

A key alteration to this year’s programming is the return of the Sunday afternoon concert, which will be a welcomed addition. Day visitors will now be able to enjoy two performances on the same day.

The Sunday Spa carvery will also be back on the menu. Guests will be able to enjoy a meal in the Suncourt prior to the afternoon performance.

Paul Laidlaw, the musical director of the Orchestra will be introducing new music and arrangements for this new season. The programme is yet to be confirmed but it’s guaranteed to be an exciting mix of new melodies and old favourites.

Last year’s ticket prices have been held for the coming summer season, including season tickets.

Jo Ager, general manager of Scarborough Spa, said: “The Spa is proud of the fact we host the UK’s only remaining professional seaside orchestra and we are delighted with the return of the Sunday afternoon concert.

“The Spa Orchestra is still a major draw for both Scarborough residents and visitors to the town and we are looking to welcoming more faces throughout the summer months.”

Tickets go on sale on Tuesday March 1 from the Spa box office on (01723) 821888 and via www.scarboroughspa.co.uk
