Some of the country’s top surfers will cruise in to Scarborough next weekend to compete in the fourth annual UK Pro Surf Tour.

Now the biggest event on the Pro Surf UK circuit, last year’s competition attracted around 10,000 visitors.

The festival will also feature a stunt bike show, live music, free surfing lessons for kids and a surf surgery for adults, a classic VW display, and a pop-up cinema.

The action starts in the North Bay at 10am on Saturday, October 4 and runs through until 5pm the following day.

Local surf businesses Secret Spot, Scarborough Surf School, Fluid Concept and Dexters Surf Shop are supporting the event to promote surfing as an extreme but safe sport by sharing their local surf knowledge, offering a surf surgery and taster session for young would-be surfers.

Dave Reed, CEO of organisers UK Pro Surf, said: “We are delighted to be working again with Scarborough Borough Council and our sponsor partners to bring our national Pro Surf Tour to Scarborough – our professional surfers are looking forward to showcasing their talents to the local community. Based on the 2011, 2012 and 2013 events, we’re predicting that this year’s event will be a great success and give local and regional surfers the chance to compete against some of the best talent in Europe.”

The event is supported by the borough council and Welcome to Yorkshire, whose area director for North Yorkshire, Janet Deacon, added: “We’re delighted to welcome the UK Pro Surf Tour for the fourth year.

“Scarborough is fast becoming one of the UK’s top destinations for surfing and with many of the UK’s best surfers set to descend on the town it should be a superb weekend.”
