A SOARAWAY sum of £1,434.68 was collected by Combe Hay residents for Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

The cash was handed over at a ceremony after a presentation on the work of the service by regional fundraising manager Bob Smailes.

He was joined by Jean Dixon, a fundraising volunteer who has raised thousands for the cause, including by having a stall in the Market Hall in Scarborough.

“The money was raised from our Christmas fair and instead of buying each other gifts and sending cards we also made donations to the air ambulance,” said Combe Hay welfare manager Michelle Vickers.

The residential home in the Stepney area of Scarborough is planning a fundraiser for the local branch of the Alzheimer’s Society.

A buffet evening will be held on March 7 with proceeds helping to pay for the society’s entertainment programme.
