More than 200 Royal Navy veterans will march along Scarborough’s sea front this weekend amid fears the plug could be pulled on the annual event.
A question mark has been hanging over the annual reunion of the 8th Destroyers Squadron since organisers were told they would face a £1,000 levy for the use of the Spa facilities from 2013.
North Yorkshire Police has also told the organisation it can no longer provide traffic management for the parade, which it continued to do as a mark of respect despite pulling the plug on event traffic control several years ago.
The veterans, who travel to the town from across the UK, will march along the promenade on Sunday following a service at St Martin-on-the-hill, South Cliff, at 12.30pm.
