The Scarborough News has obtained footage which appears to show a police van jumping a red light before parking up at a McDonald’s.
The video, from a dashboard camera, was filmed in Duslow Road on Thursday lunchtime.
Speaking to The Scarborough News the driver of the vehicle, who did not wish to be identified, said: “The van was sat at the lights and then just pulled out to turn right.
“It’s lights did not come on, neither did the siren.
“I followed round the corner and could see it pulling into Morrisons and then I saw them just sat in McDonald’s car park.
“If any other driver jumped the lights like that they would have been fined.”
Police vehicles are allowed to drive through red lights only if they are responding to an emergency call.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “We have informed the Command Team at Scarborough and also Professional Standards.
“It would not be appropriate to comment further until all of the facts are established.
