The funeral director who helped to bury Sir Jimmy Savile in Scarborough, has spoken of the decision to remove the star’s headstone from Woodlands Cemetery.
Robert Morphet, managing director of Joseph A. Hey & Son Ltd funeral directors, helped to arrange Sir Jim’s funeral in November last year, and oversaw the installation of his headstone just three weeks ago.
Speaking to the Scarborough News this morning, Mr Morphet talked about the reasoning behind the removal of the £4,000, triple fronted memorial.
It took four men one and half hours to dismantle the headstone, which was taken down following a spate of sexual abuse allegations against the late radio and television presenter.
