LOCAL charities are still appealing for volunteers to help run essential services and provide support in the community.
After holding an open volunteers afternoon, Dial a Ride and Support for Carers, based at Londesborough Business Park, are hoping for more people to come forward and get involved as volunteer drivers or as part of a home visit service.
Dial-A-Ride manager Julie Banks said: “It was a chance for people who were interested in volunteering to find out what it involved, what we do and how they can benefit from volunteering.
“Volunteering is often a pathway back to work, for people who are retired it helps keeps them active, people can list it on their CV, it’s very beneficial to people.
“Our volunteers do an awful lot of good work, in Scarborough we’ve got a vibrant scene, there are a lot of charities.”
Clare Walters, manager of Support for Carers said: “We‘re looking for volunteers to provide a visit service for a couple of hours each week. They go in as a visitor and allow people who are caring to go out and pursue their own activities, it just gives carers a break.
“They can be any age or sex, it’s very rewarding and shows someone else a perspective of life within the home.”
