The longest-serving volunteer at a St Catherine’s Hospice charity shop has celebrated 30 happy years.
Muriel Leadley started volunteering for the hospice on May 23, 1986, and has been at the Falsgrave shop since it opened. I have enjoyed every minute of it and I’ve met lots of wonderful people and it’s great knowing you’re doing something worthwhile,” said Muriel.
“I have watched people grow up, I’ve watched children come in with their mums and now they come in with their children.”
In her spare time, Muriel makes bags to sell at the shop. In the last eight years she has made 2,142 bags.
“It’s quite nice when I walk around town and I recognise one of the bags. I feel like tapping them on the shoulder and saying ‘I made that bag’,” she added. Picture by Richard Ponter 162201
