A VOLUNTEERING initiative has brought a new lease of a life to a Scarborough playground.

Linden Road play area at Newby has had a makeover with all play equipment, seats and litter bins being repainted.

The project is part of a wider programme being co-ordinated by Scarborough Council’s Regeneration and Planning Services and the newly formed Community Environmental Unit.

Gildercliffe play area at Barrowcliff has already been spruced up as part of this scheme and others areas are set to follow.

The next makeover after Linden Road is being planned for Bracken Hill later this month.

Roger Burnett, Scarborough Council’s Community Environment Officer, said: “I am delighted with the support that the unit has received in putting this programme together and look forward to future projects as it really brightens up the play equipment for youngsters to enjoy.”

Anyone has an area they would like to see improved is being invited to get in touch with the Community Environment Unit who will consider how they can lend support and get involved.

Volunteers who want to help with the current playground project and future initiatives can contact Roger Burnett or Sheila Johnson by calling either (01723) 232439 or (01723) 369531.
