VOLUNTEERS in the Scarborough and Filey area are to be honoured at two social events as a special thanks for their work.
The 53 volunteers at Support for Carers, based at Londesborough Road Business Park, have collectively clocked up almost 5,900 hours of respite care.
Without these volunteers many long-term carers would not get a break from looking after their friend or relative.
Following a £300 donation from Filey Lions, a lunch for the volunteers has been organised at the Ambassador Hotel this March, the first of two events.
Clare Walters, manager of Support for Carers, says: “This public show of appreciation shows how much Support For Carers’ volunteers mean to the community of Scarborough and Filey.
“I would like to thank both Filey Lions and our volunteers for their continuous support and generosity to the community.”
She added: “These volunteers do not ask for public recognition; they don’t ask for trophies or certificates. They carry out their voluntary work with the utmost professionalism and sensitivity.
“They are individuals who just get on with it and I applaud them.”
Richard Hebden, from Filey Lions, said: “We are pleased to make a donation to Support for Carers who carry out an excellent service in the community.”
