A popular North Yorkshire attraction is in the running to win a prestigious award.

Helmsley Walled Garden has been nominated in the LandLove Magazine Awards.

The awards, which will now be put to a public vote, aim to recognise and celebrate the very best of the British Countryside, across 12 categories.

The Helmsley venue will battle it out in the Favourite Garden category against nine other horticultural wonders including English Heritage’s Audley End Gardens, RHS Rosemoor and the National Trust’s Buckland Abbey.

Tricia Harris, marketing manager at the walled garden, said: “It’s such an honour to be shortlisted for Britain’s Favourite Garden, it really means so much to us. We know that the competition will be tough, we’re in great company with many of our favourite gardens also being featured in the category.

“We are the only independent garden to make the shortlist and we have a tenth of the number of the visitors of some of the big gardens, as we are smaller in scale, so it’s a great achievement to get this far. However, we have high hopes that Helmsley Walled Garden fans will show their support.”

Voting for the award is now open until Tuesday 3 January 2017. Anyone wishing to vote can do so at http://www.landlove.com/awards.
