A three-year-old was injured when a wave smashed a car window at Scarborough seafront yesterday.

Police tweeted: "Stay away from the sea" following the incident yesterday afternoon.

Officers also shared a picture of the car showing the extent of damage inflicted by the wave.

It shows an empty child's car seat behind the smashed rear left passenger window.

@NYP_ScarbB5 added: "A wave caused damage to this vehicle and an injury to the 3 y/o child!", after 4pm on Sunday (February 12).

Yorkshire Ambulance Service and the RNLI were in attendance, but no further details of the child's injuries are available at this time.

A flood warning had been issued by the Environment Agency for near the Spa Complex yesterday - but was no longer in force by 7.37pm.
