We will get much stronger

We showed signs of improvement against a very strong West Leeds side on Saturday.

After the disappointment of losing at Bridlington, the guys responded with a good effort against a side who came to throw the ball around and attack us, which they have to be credited for.

It’s the same old same old with us though and our fitness cost us dearly again.

I keep coming back to it, but our fitness levels aren’t up to the standard I really expect them to be.

We will work hard at that though and we only get better and better as the season progresses, our fitness improves and we get new faces into the team.

Our new captain Matty Jones arrives back in the country this week and he’ll go straight into the side for our game at Yarnbury this weekend.

Not only is Matty an excellent player, but he’s a leader and he will no doubt help out the other lads on the pitch.

Leadership is one of the areas we are slightly lacking in and having Matty in there alongside Tom Harrison will be a huge boost for us.

Tom has stepped in and captained the side in Matty’s absence and he’s done a fantastic job in very testing circumstances.

Another player who has really impressed this season is Tom Ratcliffe.

Every time Tom gets his hands on the ball he looks dangerous.

He scored a sensational try on Saturday and you just knew when he got on the ball he was going to cause them problems.

I was slightly critical of Tom’s work-rate a while ago, but that was only as we want him involved in the game a lot more as he can unlock the opposition’s defence.

He came off with a back injury against West Leeds, which was a blow, but we expect him back this week.
