THE SEARCH for the next Miss Scarborough is on as the competition returns in 2011.
Girls can now enter to win the coveted title of Miss Scarborough and District 2011 which will take place in a glittering awards ceremony at the Spa Ocean Room on May 15.
New organiser, Diane Yalezo, owner of prom dress shop Desire in Filey, hopes to build the event’s reputation to become one of Scarborough’s annual highlights.
Diane was a close friend of Vivienne Lee who revived the competition in 2008 but sadly died in 2009.
She said: “I was a good friend of Vivienne Lee, so it’s nice to be able to continue this on behalf of her. I’m hoping this competition will now go from strength to strength, like it was when Vivenne ran it.
“It’s a great opportunity for girls to enter the competition, the winner automatically goes through to the grand final of Miss England, and if they win that they go through to Miss World.
“I’m hoping the girls from last year will come back and enter. Rachael Cooper won in 2009 and she was actually a runner-up the previous year. So if the girls entered last year and didn’t win, don’t give up this year!
“This year is going to be bigger and better, we’re taking it back to the Spa Ocean Room. There’ll be a disco after the event, it should be a highlight evening of the year.”
The competition has already attracted its first entrant, Katie Botham, of Whitby, who is hoping to succeed current Miss Scarborough Alice Czyz.
Katie said: “It’s something I’ve thought about doing for a long time and it’s a really good opportunity to represent the district.”
To join Katie in the running to become the next Miss Scarborough and District, entrants must be aged 17-24 and have a YO postcode.
To enter, simply fill out the form on this page and send it along with a headshot and full-length picture of yourself to the Evening News.
As well as automatic entry to the Miss England finals taking place around the end of June, this year’s winner will receive a host of prizes from local businesses.
As well as an overall winner there will be an eco award winner, a Miss Charity and a best dress winner.
Please note, entrants must comply with all the rules of Miss England which are available to view at www.missengland.info
If you enter and it is found you do not comply with any of the rules, it will result in immediate disqualification.
Send your entry forms to Miss Scarborough Competition, 17-23 Aberdeen Walk, Scarborough, YO11 1BB.
Entries must be received no later than Friday April 1, 2011.
Any businesses interested in sponsoring the event, or sponsoring any of the girls who will wear a sash bearing the company’s name, can contact Diane Yalezo on 07580447459.
