Wigwams plan passed

EIGHT wigwams will be built at a Flixton farm after a planning application was approved by councillors on Thursday.

Planning officers said the wigwams, at Humble Bee Farm, resembled sheds on the island of Lindisfarne which are built from upturned boats and would have less visual impact than caravans on the site.

A report by Jill Low, Scarborough Council’s planning manager, had recommended that permission was granted as long as the wigwams were only used for holiday letting purposes.

The plan had initially requested that an extra three caravans at the site but this was withdrawn in favour of the wigwam proposal.

The site will be to the south of the farm – about 300m from the Flixton to Forden road – in a small dry valley which is a feature of the Wolds chalk landscape.
